The Prophet would make every occasion a point of reference to remember God. For example, this is water. There are many prophetic sayings about water. Whenever the Prophet would drink water, he would thank God for the unique blessing. We see water in liquid form, and utilize it in this form. Had water been in gaseous form, how could we use it? Remember God's power when you behold water. When you look at food, remember God being the Provider. When you look at air, remember God's blessings. Whatever experiences we have should be made a point of reference to remember God. This is zikr-e-kathir.
The Quran says: Remember God often. (33.41) But it doesn’t tell us how to remember God. The Quran only conveys the principle. According to a hadith: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ أَحْيَانِهِ (Sahih Muslim 373) The Prophet used to remember God on every occasion.
